Surrender of Indian Passport by erstwhile Citizens of India and Renunciation of Indian nationality

Under the Indian Citizenship Act, 1955, Indian citizens are NOT allowed to hold DUAL Citizenship. If a person had ever held Indian nationality (and Passport) and subsequently voluntarily obtained nationality/Passport of another country, he/she ceases to be an Indian national (as per Section 9 of Citizenship Act) and is required only to surrender his/her Indian Passport.

Instructions:

Step 1:

Apply online at: Passport Seva Portal

While filling the form:

Step 2:

Make online payment for the applicable service: Embassy of India Helsinki – Consular Fees-click here

Step 3:

Visit the Embassy between 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM on working days with the following:

  • Printed online application form (with ink signature on Last Page)
  • 01 color photos (35×45 mm, white background).
  • Current Indian Passport along with self attested copies to be submitted at the Embassy
  • Self attested copy of foreign passport
  • Copy of Nationality Certificate
  • Foreign Address proof (electricity/phone bill, etc.)
  • Printed Payment receipt (Bank transfer only)

In case of Minor applicants- copies of all requisite documents has to be attested by Parent(s).

  ⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTICE       

  • Incomplete applications will not be processed.
  • No prior appointment is required for consular services. Applicants may visit the Embassy with requisite documents on any working day(List of Holidays)during the following hours:                                                                        

           - Submission Hours: 09:00 – 12:00 hrs          
           - Collection Hours: 15:00 – 16:30 hrs

Note: A Surrender Certificate is mandatory for OCI application. 

 Renunciation of Indian Citizenship
This service is applicable only to Indian nationals/Indian passport holders and not for those who already hold Foreign/Finnish nationality/passport.
